HIP PAIN

Hip Pain

The hip joint is a ball and socket joint that connects the leg at the femur to the pelvis at the fusion of the ilium, ischium and pubis bones.  A very large amount of force passes through this joint with normal daily activities.  The hip joint is a very stable joint as strong ligaments and muscles reinforce the joint and provide considerable strength.  There is also a ring of cartilage, the labrum, that goes around the joint that adds additional stability.  However, because of the strenuous activities and sports that people pursue, the joint can be injured.  Age and normal wear and tear can also cause thinning of the lining or articular cartilage of the hip joint.

If the articular cartilage lining of the joint becomes worn or is injured, a person may feel mild to severe pain with simple activities such as walking, sitting, standing and climbing stairs.  The pain may be in the hip area, in the groin, or radiating down the leg.  This pain normally starts off mild, and becomes progressively more severe over time.  Additionally, the pain can be from arthritis, a labral injury, a tendon injury, or a bursitis.  The pain can often be confused with pain from the sacroiliac joint.

If you begin to feel pain around the hip, it is best to seek medical attention early.  Arthritis and many hip injuries and conditions can be resolved if treated early.  Surgery is often not necessary if treated quickly. Your doctor needs to perform an accurate and thorough examination and prescribe imaging studies to determine the exact cause of the hip and often groin pain.  Many times regenerative injection treatments can stimulate repair and healing.  This can prevent surgery, disability and long periods of rehabilitation.  Worldwide research in regeneration and healing is now making it possible to repair injuries and resolve pain rapidly so that injured people can return quickly back to normal activities and even to strenuous activities.

Palm Beach Spine & Diagnostic Institute has been a South Florida leader in advancing repair and healing of arthritis and hip joint injuries.  Call (561) 649-8770 to get back to the activities you enjoy.

To not be able to move or get out of bed for about 3 years... it took everything I love. The staff at Palm Beach Spine & Diagnostic Institute gave me a lot of hope. It took a few weeks and I started to feel better. It was miraculous. I danced... hiked ... doing kung-fu again ... it's definitely worth it. You can't put a price on feeling good. You cannot put a price on your health.
