SPINE SURGERY ALTERNATIVES

Spine Surgery Alternatives

If you’ve been told that you need spine surgery, it may not be your only choice for pain relief. Today, because of modern technology, many more options are available to rapidly treat spine pain with minimally invasive techniques. Spine surgery is accomplished with invasive procedures that can be expensive and result in long recovery and rehabilitation times. It is wise to be evaluated by a physician who has been trained in the new modern minimally invasive medical techniques to determine the additional treatment possibilities available.

Back and neck pain can be excruciating. It’s easy to assume that such intense pain can only be addressed with major surgery. The good news is that there are alternatives to spine surgery for many conditions.

  • Problems with the Facet Joints, whether through damage, age or wear & tear, can result in debilitating back pain. We can often alleviate this type of pain with a minimally invasive procedure called facet steroid injections. There is NO recovery time on this type of procedure. Patients often feel better immediately. In more extreme cases where the joints are seriously damaged, Facet Joint Radiofrequency Denervation performed as an outpatient can offer complete pain relief minutes after the procedure.  This procedure offers back pain sufferers a rapid relief of pain without the complications or recovery time of major back surgery.
  • Herniated discs are often a source of back pain. Whether your discs are herniated or torn, there are minimally-invasive procedures available that are less intensive than back surgery in terms of cost and recovery time. In fact, many disc herniations and symptoms of radiculopathy or nerve impingement resolve after epidural steroid injections making surgery not necessary.
  • Sometimes pain felt in the back is actually related to the Sacroiliac Joint which is formed by a triangular bone, the Sacrum, that wedges into the pelvic girdle and supports the spine. In many situations we can use Regenerative Medicine techniques and Radiofrequency to encourage the body to heal itself, alleviating pain without major surgery.
  • Whether your back pain is a result of an auto accident, a slip & fall injury, sports injury, or just wear & tear of living, there may be options for living without pain aside from addictive pills or major back surgery. Make sure you know your options before committing to expensive back surgery with long recovery times.

In some cases, back surgery may be the only option for pain relief. But before heading down a route requiring a significant investment of time and money, get a second opinion from Dr. Gorfine at Palm Beach Sine & Diagnostic Institute. Dr. Gorfine is Palm Beach County’s leading expert on using minimally invasive orthopedic medical techniques and regenerative medicine techniques to alleviate back pain without major surgery or addictive pills.

To not be able to move or get out of bed for about 3 years... it took everything I love. The staff at Palm Beach Spine & Diagnostic Institute gave me a lot of hope. It took a few weeks and I started to feel better. It was miraculous. I danced... hiked ... doing kung-fu again ... it's definitely worth it. You can't put a price on feeling good. You cannot put a price on your health.
