WEST PALM BEACH, FL (March 30, 2018) – In keeping with its innovative approach to health and medicine, Palm Beach Spine & Diagnostic Institute is now accepting Bitcoin, a cryptocurrency and worldwide payment system, for payment for medical services. The Palm Beach Spine & Diagnostic Institute is the first physician’s office in the region to accept this new payment option and third in the state of Florida.
“Patients want to be in charge of their own healthcare,” said Lawrence Gorfine, M.D., president of Palm Beach Spine & Diagnostic Institute. “By accepting Bicoin, we’re providing additional access to patients who don’t have insurance or would like to maintain their privacy and obtain excellent healthcare.”
Bitcoin use has increased in the healthcare industry for a number of reasons, including easy payments using a smartphone; anonymity, as it keeps the health services patients receive private; ease in access, especially for international travelers who may experience an unexpected illness or accident; less expensive bank fees than credit cards and other payment options, and more. For security, all transactions with Bitcoin are verified through a network and recorded in a public ledger that cannot be altered or deleted.
“We like to adapt and grasp new technologies, when appropriate,” said Gorfine. “We believe blockchain technology is the way of the future so it’s time to embrace this form of payment.”
